Diesel DPF Delete Kits

July 24th, 2009

So…The days of the smoke filled street lanes and cloudy hazey diesels are all gone… Some may say this is a good thing, (which personally  I will not deny), but for the masses of diesel performance enthusiasts alike, this is a day that will surely be remembered as the demise of the “big 3″ [ GM Duramax, Ford Powerstroke & the infamouse Dodge Cummins].

So, what is a Diesel Particulate filter anyways?

A diesel particulate filter, or sometimes called a “DPF”, is a pre-installed device on your diesel car or trucks exhaust pipe which is designed to remove diesel particulate matter or “soot” from the exhaust gasses of a diesel engine like a Cummins, Duramax or Powerstroke.

Over years, this method has been tested an proven to remove more than 85% of the soot matter, and at times (in heavily loaded conditions) can attain efficiencies up to 100%.

A diesel-powered vehicle equipped with functioning DPF will emit nearly zero visible smoke from its tail-pipe, and this method has proven a substantial reduction of particulate emissions in the air.
Due to the tests made by the EPA, and other emissions controls agencies, the DPF is gaining strong momentum and has passed regulations governing fuel sulfur levels as well.

So, this brings the next questions: Why would you add a DPF Delete Kit?

Well, the reasons are endless, but the one thing that you MUST remember when the idea of tampering with government mandated smog devices pops into your head: This is HIGHLY ILLEGAL FOR ON-ROAD USE!

For this exact reason, we reccomend only using these DPF Delete Kits for closed course competition or off-road use (such as farm trucks, or green stickered vehicles).

To properly delete a DPF system, one must remember that your truck will NOT run correctly, unless the proper measures are taken, such as the installation of DPF simulators for the Dodge Cummins 6.7L or the Ford Powerstroke 6.4L or in the case of the Chevy Duramax 6.6L LMM, you must use the PPE Xcelerator (Off-Road Version for DPF Removal) or the Edge Racing Evolution Programmer.
By adding either of these devices, you will eliminate all codes associated with your DPF being deleted, and the simulators will actually (in a shortened version) tell your trucks’ computer that everything is still stock, and running okay.

SMARTY S67 Programmer for 6.7L Cummins

July 21st, 2009

Laguna Speed Shop has been working with MADS Electronics, the innovators behind the Smarty Programmersfor years now, and thus far has been the one and only programmer that has proved time and time again to be the most aggressive of the performance tuners out on the market for the Cummins powered Dodge Ram 2500-3500; So, when Bob @ Mads Electronics decided to tease with the idea that they would have a tuner for the 6.7L Cummins that would blow away the competition, Laguna Speed Shop was there to listen!

The Mads Electronics SMARTY programmer, or also known as the SMARTY “Catcher” has been a force to be reckoned with in the Dodge 2500-3500 Cummins community for years now, and the verdict has been reached that Smarty is NOT going anywhere!

Since the conception of the Cummins 5.9L CR or “Common Rail” (from 2003-2007) the toughest task that performance tuning companies have been up against have always been: Supplying a programmer with enough brute force to pull a tree stump out of the ground (just an analogy) while running safely all day long, and while getting the fuel economy of a compact car like diesel owners have always been used to!  Smarty quickly proved themselves to the Cummins Diesel owners when they released a performance programmer that had 10 different power levels, all ranging from mild to wild! (excuse the cheesy expression). The performance tuning was ground breaking! Smarty would allow the use of just about any other other programmer or module, allowed the use of larger injectors, turbos etc, which really turned the heads of the competition and the Cummins diesel owners as well! The Smarty Programmer was and is the hottest thing around for the 5.9L Cummins, and now, here we are on the forefront of technology, re-introducing an infamouse Cummins Diesel motor with even more strength, more technology, more drawbacks, more longevity and lets not forget- MORE CUBIC INCHES!

Once the Cummins owners saw the S67 coming, they were there to accept the bigger badder engine, but SMARTY (or Mads Electronics) was not so quick to release their infamous Dodge programmer up until about June! Now that the programmer is in it’s full release mode, the masses have absolutely loved it, and accepted it once again as one of the premier performance programmers for the Dodge Ram Cummins 6.7L !

With the Smarty having so much diversity it is an obvious choice in what tuner to choose for your 6.7L Cummins. The Smarty S67 programmer comes preloaded with power levels ranging from about 30HP all the way up to 170HP, and tons of advanced options to support upgrades such as EGR delete Kits, aftermarket turbos, DPF Delete Kits, and also reads/clears check engine codes to (saves the trip to the Dodge dealer), has an advanced torque management setting and the ability to increase horsepower either with or without timing for stacking with other modules / programmers .

The actual part number for the Smarty (hence the name) is Part# S67

Vehicles this part will fit: 2007.5-2009 (build date before to May 3 2009 ONLY)
*****Please check the production date present on the ECM before
installing the CaTCHER software. Smarty S67  has not been tested on 2009 trucks with ECM bootloader software produced after the date 03-04-
2009 according to the service bulletin 18-007-09.
